"It's the first piece I sculpted in the summer of 1999. It came about intuitively, and so it was only natural that the result turned out to be very open to interpretation. The bird can be protective, comforting, or healing. When I created it, I was thinking about the notion of fragility and the way we sometimes need to heal our inner being - our soul. A bird is so fragile and vulnerable... A metaphor for our inner feelings. This piece helped define what Willow Tree is today." —Susan Lordi
